318 CID LA Small Block Engine

The second generation 318 CID engine belonged to the LA engine family and was the bread and butter v8 for base model vehicles from 1968 to 1974. It was sixty pounds lighter than its A engine predecessor.

The 318 LA engine had a bore of 3.91" and 3.31" stroke. It produced 230 hp with its two-barrel carburetor and 9.2:1 compression ratio. In 1970 the 318 compression was reduced to 8.8:1 to run on regular gasoline, horsepower remained the same. Camshaft timing was 240/248/20.
